The New Inn, in the picturesque village of Shipton Gorge, is a community-managed pub. It is now run by our landlady, Andrea, and she and her team offer all customers a very warm welcome.
When the pub faced closure by the brewery in 2005, Shipton Gorge’s residents reached an agreement with Palmers to take on the lease of the pub.
The New Inn successfully re-opened in 2006 when the village locals came together to support their much-loved pub and keep it open as the hub of the village and their community.
Our two comfortable rooms, both with ensuite facilities are situated on our first floor. Unfortunately, there is no lift access although we will be happy to help you with your luggage.
Both rooms are decorated to the same high standard with complimentary tea and coffee-making facilities, which, together with king-size beds and digital flatscreen TVs, make for a comfortable and relaxing stay at the New Inn.
A choice of a delicious home-cooked breakfast made from fresh and locally sourced ingredients or cereals and toast await you in the morning.
At the New Inn we pride ourselves on our high quality, locally sourced ingredients, supporting Dorset farmers, fisheries and suppliers.
Our chef uses great local seafood, meat and vegetables when available, to create high quality fresh dishes.
Here at The New Inn, together with our reputation for food, we are equally well-known for our great-tasting beer, well-kept cask ales and overall meticulous attention to detail to ensure our beverages always taste as good as they possibly can. We serve a range of award-winning Palmers Real Cask Ales fit for any season, and flavoursome lagers all year round.
We also offer a varied selection of premium-brand and local spirits, a carefully chosen list of white, red and rose wines, fruit juices, carbonated drinks and non-alcoholic bottled beer and cider.

We were warmly greeted by a lovely lady and a young lad behind the bar (sorry we didn’t get your names!). We had the fish pie and steak and ale pie with red wine. Could not fault it! Absolutely superb food, clearly home made and not out of the freezer! With the mains to such a high standard, we decided to go for a pudding too, although we were both full from the very generous mains portions. We had sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fudge brownie, both with ice-cream. Again, outstanding quality! We can’t recommend The New Inn highly enough. Good car park and dog friendly.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Rich Padley2024-08-24Superb. Fab curry, and lovely sausages. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble. We were shown to our ensuite bedroom and after depositing our luggage we were offered a welcome drink which we enoyed sitting on the terrace overlooking stunning views over the hills. We enjoyed dinner at the New Inn on Friday evening, both the homemade fish pie and steak and ale pie were delicious. Bedrooms are clean and have everthing you need for a short stay, the bed was comfy and breakfast was excellent, plenty of choices available made with fresh produce. Despite the pub being busy with a local event we were made to feel welcome and included in the celebrations. All in all a lovely stay with excellent food and great staff - thank youTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Martyn Fagg2024-08-09We had a lovely meal - the portions were generous and the service was great.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.marie mcintyre2024-08-03Thoroughly enjoyable meal with really lovely bar staff.
